Anglesey

Anglesey's Precambrian rocks

Some of the oldest rocks on the earths surface can be seen in Angelesey;

The Precambrian rocks of Holy Island and South Stack were formed at the dynamic boundaries of the earths plates

This is what caused the twisted and contorted rocks that you can see from Treardurr bay to South Stack

Rhoscolyn is also one of the best places in the British Isles to see the effects of folding in sedi,entary rocks

South Stack beds

Beaches

South Stack Trig point

If you walk from Treardurr bay to South Stack you can see some of the oldest rocks on the earths surface

  • Because the rocks are so hard they have formed the numerous inlets and small islands that are so dangerous to shipping
  • The wind and sand erosion on the rocks have exaggerated the tortured look of the cliffs and rocks
